Imaging Device
Optomap
This state of the art imaging device enables us to discover, diagnose, document and treat a wide range of conditions that may go undetected with traditional examination techniques and equipment.
This high-resolution imaging device enables us to quickly and easily examine the retina (the back of your eyes). It is suitable for all ages, painless and usually requiring no pupil dilation or eye drops.
This device enables us to view areas of the retina that are more difficult to see with conventional equipment so that in less than a second we can see more than 80% of the retina, ready to review.
Why we use
Optomap
It is very easy to check the health of your retina and detect eye conditions such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachment. We can diagnose these conditions early so that treatment can be started straight away.
One of the major benefits of Optomap® is that we are able to identify signs of other diseases that may affect your health at a much earlier stage such as stroke, heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes. Signs of these conditions can show on your retina long before you begin to notice other changes.
The digital image of each eye can then be stored so that it can be compared and monitored at each visit. If necessary, the digital images can be sent to a specialist for further investigation.
This invaluable service is available to all our patients for a small additional charge.
OCT.
Optical Coherence Tomography
Following on from your eye examination, an OCT examination might be recommended.
This non-invasive procedure allows Amy to have a closer look at the layers of the retina and optic nerve to help with the diagnosis, management and treatment of a variety of diseases such as: diabetes-related retinopathy, glaucoma and macula degeneration.
The device uses light waves to take a cross section image of the retina. It provides a wealth of information, allowing a map of the retina to be made and to measure the thickness of the layers of the retina and optic nerve.
An OCT examination can facilitate early diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases before symptoms begin to occur.
